With this newsletter, we hope to:
start good conversations about things important to TLArtists,
invite new TLArtists—even if they don't yet know they're TLArtists—into the thoughtful, kind, space that is the TLAN community, and
inspire, educate, provoke, inform, and nourish through articles about the practice, experience, and effect of Transformative Language Arts.
Transformative Language Arts is a profoundly radical response to the fragmentation, isolation, violence, hopelessness, and despair of our culture. In the same way the word “radical” comes from the word “roots,” TLA brings people literally back to their roots, and from that perspective, gives them a wider view of what they and what their communities might be.
Transformative Language Arts practitioners (TLArtists) include, but are not limited to, singer/songwriters, novelists and poets, spoken word artists, workshop facilitators, educators, actors, graffiti artists, bloggers, community organizers, teachers, therapists, coaches, activists, nurses, and all who believe in, or are even slightly curious about, the power of the word to make fundamental, lasting transformation.
Transformative Language artists, scholars, facilitators, and consultants facilitate creative and language arts in many venues, including community centers, schools, prisons, health centers and hospitals, businesses, research facilities, and retreat centers.
